Abalone Diving
April 19th, 2008If you have never been Abalone Diving – get ready for an adventure of a life time. Full Wet-suit gear, crashing waves, mega-strong currents, and holding your breath for a long time while you dive down 15-30 feet in search of the abalone…
The seals add an interesting element – including a bit of fear. Why? Because that’s what the Great White’s eat. This area of diving in Northern California is about 20 miles from the Great White Shark Breeding Ground. Why do it then? What’s life without a little danger? “Live intensely and die suddenly.” I can’t remember who said that, but I love the quote…. paul Dickey is one of my life-long friends (thy guy with the spear gun!). Check out the catch. Those abalone you take and cook up at the campground… what a delicacy!

I have been ab diving for over ten years and each year i get a better sense of how free one feels in the water… catching the surge and swell just right will shoot one down with great intensity; getting one as close to a feeling of flying as it gets.
grab your iron and get wet!
